[2007/05/29 12:00 AM] Richmond Hill PHOENIX Baseball Club
Richmond Hill Phoenix has seen tremendous growth over the past few years. This year alone our registrations are up by almost 30%. We are pleased to welcome so many new players into the baseball fraternity.

This year will also see many some new coaches and new sponsors join our club. These are the people who are so important to our success. Without coaches or sponsors we could not afford to field teams. So please support our sponsors and say a special thanks to the many coaches who take the time and energy to give so much.

As our club has grown, so have the divisions and opportunities for the many different teams. We will be hosting the championship Select Ontario Baseball Association (SOBA) Provincial tournament for Rookie Ball, Mosquito, Pee Wee and Bantam over the Labour Day weekend as well as the Championship tournament for Baseball Ontario’s Pee Wee division the same weekend.

We have also put together a local tournament in July for our House League teams as well, in which they will have a playdown to see which one will represent Richmond Hill at the Provincial Interlock Tournament in August. The winning teams will have their entry fees paid for by the club.

There is lots of excitement through the summer in baseball with hundreds of games being played. We hope as you are watching some of them, you reflect on the number of volunteers and training that it took to get us all to that wonderful game. To date we have seen tens of thousands of kids play baseball in Richmond Hill. Some went south with scholarships and dreams of major leagues. Others went on to become mechanics, lawyers, doctors, fire fighters and every other occupation you can think of, but they all seemed to have retained a love of the game.

Your contributions to our league have helped get us to where we are today, and without you we never would have come this far. I also want to welcome our incoming executive for the 2007 season. I look forward to working hand in hand with you to ensure a bright and positive future for our league.

To all the players, parents, coaches, sponsors, and umpires I want to thank you for all your support, hard work, efforts, and enthusiasm. You are the life blood of our association, and without your continued support we would not be here today.

We are a charter member of the Richmond Hill Community Sport Council, a member of Ontario Baseball Association, Baseball Canada, Select Ontario Baseball, York Simcoe Baseball Association and associated with various baseball and sports organizations in the United States and the rest of the baseball world

For Phoenix and its many members, this season is another one full of promise and hope. It is a season of baseball to look forward to. Somewhere, at any time, in Richmond Hill, on a soft, velvet night, under a canopy of stars, there will be a grassy field, flooded by light, where the symphony of the crickets is interrupted only by the crack of a bat, and the wild cheering of the fans. This season will continue the tradition started way, way, way back (as one of the younger players put it), and we invite you to be a part of it. Come and see a game or two. Check out the schedules and come on down.

Yours in Baseball

Stan Pagonis
President
Richmond Hill Baseball Club
